gua nut, also known as corozo, is a seed from a palm tree, that mainly grows in the northern part of South America ( Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela).
Tagua similarity with elephant ivory has made it become known as “Vegetable Ivory”.
Exposed to the tropical sun, the seeds dry out within 1 to 3 months, depending on their content of water. Once they have dried, they are manually peeled, sliced, carved into several shapes, depending its use. Tagua has a natural white color, and to dye it only natural ingredients are used, then it’s polish until it reaches its characteristic shine.
A lot of beautiful items are created with Tagua, like buttons, jewelry, chess pieces, piano keyboards, umbrella handles, among others.
